This is probably a bigger deal if you're Brad Nelson, but you're smart too. Again, not huge on this theory, but the more experience you have, the more you might want to try and extend the game, giving you more opportunities to make good plays and your opponents opportunities to mess up. Setting yourself up to not lose to those draws and forcing your opponent to make decisions will win some matches. You can't be a total noob to win with most decks, but there are going to be hands with the most aggressive decks that the Mario Kart 64 AI could pilot to a win. Having said that, destructive midrange decks like this require having a little bit of format knowledge and deck familiarity to be piloted well, since all your stuff is so dependent on what your opponent is doing. I have OPINIONS.I don't always buy the idea that you should build your decks to maximize your play skill over your opponent, because, you know, you might play someone better than you and have that backfire. I competed in MCVII, day 2'ed some paper tourneys, and like to sneak away to play 75% commander. Hi, I'm Eli (pronounced Ellie), and I am a podcaster, avid arena player, and streamer. There's some ramp and mana modification, with Nature's Lore, Sakura-Tribe Elder, and similar cards, but I think some more early cards like Elves of Deep Shadow, Golgari Signet, and Elvish Mystic would. They may not be the flashiest cards ever printed, but they sure do get their jobs done. Cards like Butcher of Malakir and Grave Betrayal would work better in a more graveyard-focused deck than what I think this deck wants to be. I have a lot of nostalgia for both of these cards. The price tag may be low, but these are the cards that players often want to buy in multiples. Utility cards that aren't high-end are an underrated part of sets like Double Masters. Maelstrom pulse will certainly be effective against any token deck should one present itself. However, this card will certainly be useful in any ramp or aristocrat based strategy. It's hard to say exactly what the limited landscape of this set will be. Sacrificing a creature for one mana may not be that impactful, but if it also draws you a card and puts a +1/+1 counter on your commander, well now you're cooking with grease. While Korvold has probably become the Jund sacrifice deck, Awakening Zone is a great include here as well. Sengled Pulse LED Bulb with Wireless speaker Starter Kit E27 Silver (1 x Master. I personally had this in my Shattergang Brothers EDH deck as a source of mana and a constant supplier of throwaway creatures. When autocomplete results are available use up and down. You will see if often in Korvold, Fae-Cursed King, and Meren of Clan Nel Toth. It is an auto include in every sacrifice based EDH deck that can run it. While it sees no eternal format play that I'm aware of, it is a great EDH card. That being said, its still found in over 4500 EDH decks according to .Īwakening Zone has sort of the reverse story of Maelstrom Pulse. It being sorcery speed is also a hit on its playability. While Pulse also sees play in EDH, it has much stiffer competition for BG removal spells, such as Assassin's Trophy and Putrefy. Although I haven't played jund in five years, pulse is still has a home in the main deck of many Jund decks. Cards similar to Maelstrom Pulse: Legions to Ashes Witherbloom Command Culling Ritual Echoing Truth Gaze of Granite Lobotomy Drain the Well Echoing Ruin. An often played Jund card in modern, it has saved me more than once against a flock lingering souls. Maelstrom Pulse has seen its time in the sun. Without further ado, say hello to Maelstrom Pulse and Awakening Zone! I've always really enjoyed preview season, so it feels great to be a part of it from the other side!ĭespite the discourse surrounding this set, there are a lot of cards to be excited about from needed reprints to box topper alternate arts. Thank you to Wizards for the free previews. I've made it to the big leagues with not one but two previews of Magic's newest Premium product, Double Masters.
